North Carolina dealership grows its reach into the construction market
Doosan continues to enhance its dealer network by supporting dealers, like ACT Construction Equipment, that is expanding its operations with new locations in North Carolina and Virginia to leverage greater Doosan equipment opportunities in sales, rental, leasing, parts and service.
Starting out as a forklift dealer in 1973, ACT Construction Equipment moved into the compact construction equipment business in 2008. Despite the economic recession, ACT continued to grow into a respected dealership with expansions into Charlotte and Wilmington, North Carolina, in 2018, along with new locations in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and near Roanoke, Virginia.
Doosan approached ACT in 2017 about becoming a dealer. Within the first year, Director of Sales and Business Development, Britt Hefner, says the Doosan construction equipment line has been such a successful complement to the business that his company has identified opportunities to extend its construction services into additional markets – a total of four new enterprise locations in 18 months.
“Being with Doosan and seeing how the business has grown, we just see it as a great opportunity to go into other markets and expand our construction business where we already had facilities,” Britt says. “Doosan has been a good fit for us. We signed and haven’t looked back.”
“Getting the facility and the equipment – that’s the easy part. Finding the qualified technicians to grow with us is the challenge,” says Britt, who concentrates technician outreach efforts on participating in local college and military recruitment events.
Staffing challenges aside, Britt has experienced a high level of support and encouragement to increase the company’s profitability through Doosan’s organic growth strategy.
Access to Doosan market share data has been a confidence-builder for ACT. “The data they give us with existing customer lists and showing us the number of Doosan machines already in the field helped us make our decision,” says Britt.
