Chris Caldwell of Roanoke, Virginia, was recently named the grand prize winner of the 2018 Doosan Infracore North America Hometown MVP contest. As the grand prize winner, Chris received four tickets to Game 4 of the 2018 MLB® World Series® presented by YouTubeTV. He also received round-trip airfare and a two-night hotel stay.
Chris is an equipment superintendent at Branch Civil, a site development, design-build and heavy-highway construction firm. He has been with the company for more than 23 years and is a certified equipment manager. When an email promoting the contest caught his eye, the Boston Red Sox (TM) fan took the time to complete the online entry. He detailed how Branch Civil helps build schools, improves critical infrastructure in his growing community and performs work to protect the ecosystems near the company’s jobsites.
In his entry, Chris wrote: “We perform wetland mitigation, which keeps our environment healthy and thriving. We are an employee-owned company, and we are community minded. We give back to local charities and nonprofits often.”
Some additional examples of how Branch Civil gives back to the community is work done for local little league baseball fields. “We’re involved with numerous charities and things in the Roanoke Valley,” Chris says. “We’ve donated a vehicle and some diagnostic tools for one of the area’s tech ed programs. We have also provided equipment for a program in our community called Touch-A-Truck.”
Surprise after his vacation
On his way back home from a recent vacation in Mexico, Chris turned on his phone and loaded his email messages from his time out of the office.
“I went to Mexico for a week, and I didn’t have my phone on,” he says. “I was going through my email, and it was probably about 30 emails down. I was like, ‘oh my gosh,’ and I called my wife to tell her. We were super stoked. We are baseball fans in general and I’m a Red Sox fan.”
